About the Artist
Richard Barett Talbot Kelly RI (1896-1971) was a painter of birds and historical
subjects. He came from a well-known family of painters: his grandfather Robert George
Kelly (1822-1910) was a painter of Irish and Scottish landscapes, and his father
Robert George Talbot Kelly (1861-1934) painted landscapes and figurative subjects
in Egypt and Morocco. Richard Barett Talbot Kelly was elected a Member of the Royal
Institute of Painters in Watercolours in 1925, the year this painting was inscribed.
He exhibited widely including at the Brook Street Art Gallery (68), Glasgow Institute
of the Fine Arts (1), Walker Art Gallery, Liverpool (18), Royal Academy (5), Royal
Institute of Painters in Watercolours (73), and Royal Institute of Oil Painters (1).
The Subject
